Labour by prisoners in the correctional homes has been classified into three categories : Skilled, Semi-skilled and Un-skilled. The rate of wages payable to prisoners in Skilled, Semi-skilled and Un-skilled categories are as follows.

| 2. | For Semi-skilled labours | Rs. 21/- per head daily |
| 3. | For Un-skilled labours | Rs. 18/- per head daily |

There is a big printing press inside Alipore Central Correctional home equipped with various machineries namely web offset, baby offset and offset DTP with a binding section. Around 80 convicts work daily in the press and receive vocational training in printing and binding. The jail press prints different types of forms and registers required by different offices of the State Govt. at cheaper rate compared to outside market. It is capable of meeting the entire requirement of different Govt. offices of the State.
There is a Jail Depot located at the ground floor of Writers’ Buildings, Kolkata-1, Administrative Headquarters of West Bengal Government, wherefrom the products of Prison industries in the correctional homes are sold to public and other Government and Non-Governmental Organizations. The Jail Depot also participates in various trade fairs with these products.
